Volunteer Extraordinaire!

« on: Jun 28, 2010, 09:44:30 am »

It has been declared by many of the staff (teal shirts) that the volunteers of JAFAX 15 were most likely our best so far!   Shocked Cool CheesyGrin

Thank you so much for being the amazing volunteers you were this year and I am sorry that we could not award you better than we did. Everyone put in the effort and even more to make JAFAX run as smoothly as it could for the con-goers. Excellent work, recruits; you make the JSDF proud!

Oh, and congratulations Robin for being our Most Valuable Volunteer (aka MVP) of the year! It was a very difficult choice to have to pick only one when I really wanted to give everyone everything. You stood out in my mind rather clearly and Will agreed that the wonderful plushy prize belonged to you though we both picked two volunteers to get special prizes. I do not think we are going to do this prize thing again; it just became a hassle and wasn't a nice way to make volunteers work harder.

I hope that next year you all come back with just as excellent of a performance no matter what the material rewards are.

*BIG HUGS to ALL!*

We did NOT expect to completely sell out of t-shirts this year, I know some volunteers who earned a t-shirt got a shirt that was a wrong size or did not get one at all.  Lynx has got a list, we are considering an additional print run, it's going to depend on if we can afford it (Edit: pretty sure we can), and it might not happen until as late as this fall, but know that we are aware of the issue and trying to figure out how we can make it right

Edit: And YES Lynx is right, this was an excellent volunteer year.  For the most part, all of you were hard workers, on the ball, ready to jump in as needed, and just generally great.  Best year we've had for volunteers in recent memory.

I would also like to thank all of our volunteers.  I "talked to" or rather sent several of our volunteers on small errands, and everyone seemed eager to help. During clean up on Sunday I was almost bored because we had so many volunteers still looking for any way to help that they could.  This was an incredible year, and I very much enjoyed working along side of everyone.

My BF would really appreciate that.

The Volunteers were fantastic. Smiley  I'm glad that we have so many that are willing to donate their time to helping this event run smoothly.  The guest also thank the volunteers for their help for watching their tables and being helpful.

I would like to highlight the dedication of one volunteer.  He has been a volunteer for years and I know his face, but I'm very bad with names.  I believe his name might be Joe.  He wore the black apron with ninjas on it.

The bus he was riding in transit to Jafax was hit by a car.  Everyone survived the crash and I don't believe there were any serious injuries.  Joe was late to the Friday training and was asking about where to check in for his room.  After asking Jon where to go, I took him to check in.  Joe looked really shaken from the crash and since I knew him from past Jafax events, I told him if he needed time to gather himself that would be ok, he knew how things work.  After seeing that he had a room his face lite up and he relaxed a bit and said he was going to be ok.

I hope that I got his name correct.  If you're on the forums, thanks again and I'm sorry for not remembering your name.

I can't remember names very well either but there are a few I do remember. I'd like to thank all the volunteers for doing an amazing job. I'd like to thank Josh and Mikey for all the work they did as well. It was fun to send Mikey dressed up as death to the store to pick up plates, just as much fun as the one year I sent him to pick up pizza when he was dressed as a samurai pizza cat.

You have no Idea how happy I was to have Mikey *death* go get those plates for us. We needed them and he was more than happy to jump to it and go get them, so thanks again Mikey. I hope to be able to work with a lot of the volunteers again next year.
