If you would like to help out at JAFAX, contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@jafax.org.

  1. The subject should be "I want to Volunteer." written exactly as is. Please, please, PLEASE remember to have "I want to Volunteer." as the subject. This makes it easier for us to pick out your e-mails from spam.
  2. The e-mail should contain the following:
    1. Full (Real) Name
    2. Age
    3. E-mail address
    4. The top three jobs you would like (see below)
    5. Days and times you are available
    6. Number of Years you have been Volunteering
    7. Are you, or have you been a GVSU Student?
    8. Do you know any of the Senior Staff, if so Who?
    9. One event you would not like to be scheduled during:
    10. If you are over 18, are you opposed to Hentai?

Volunteer Jobs

Notice: There are two (2) volunteer rooms for JAFAX. Depending on what viewing room you choose to volunteer for, you will need to answer to the Volunteer Coordinator of that area. Volunteers can expect to be scheduled for six to eight hours over the course of JAFAX, and may be asked to fill in a spot of a situation occurs.


Needed for both Saturday and Sunday. General cleaning, helping the vendors pack up and returning tables and chairs to storage.
  1. Before Hours Setup: Helping with setting up JAFAX on Saturday and Sunday. Possible tasks include helping vendors unload and set up, turning and logging onto computers, putting up signs, and other last-minute tasks.
    --Times for shifts: 8:30 am - 10 am Saturday and Sunday
  2. Greeters: Sit at the entrance to JAFAX and greet people as they come in, along with giving them bags and asking for donations. NOTE: This year, we are doing away with the sign-in forms.
    --Time for shifts: 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday, 9 am to about 7 pm on Sunday.
  3. Runners: Get DVD's to the proper showing rooms. Also to do random tasks as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator and other Senior Staff.
    --Time for shifts:10 am to 6 pm on Saturday, 10 am to 7 pm on Sunday.
  4. Green Room Watcher: They keep watch over the Green Room where we store food for Staff, Guests, and other Volunteers. Also make sure that those using the Green Room are Staff, Guests, and Volunteers.
    --Time for shifts: 9:30 am to 6 pm Saturday, 9:30 am to 7 pm Sunday.
  5. Video Room Watcher: They play the anime and various other movies shown during JAFAX. In addition, you make sure that the video equipment and DVD's are working properly and are not stolen.
    Adult Video Room Watcher and ID Checker: They must be 18 or older, as they need to watch the programming in there, as well as check the ID's of those entering.
    --Time for shifts: 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday, 10 am to 7 pm on Sunday.
  6. Pizza Wagon: You serve people food.
    NOTE: Please have a reference by a Senior Staff member to volunteer for this position, as you do deal with money.
    --Time for shifts: 9:30 am to 6 pm on Saturday, 9:30 am to 7 pm on Sunday.
  7. T-shirt Table: Sell JAFAX merchandise to people.
    NOTE: Please have a reference by a Senior Staff member to volunteer for this position, as you do deal with money.
    --Time for shifts: 9:30 am to 6 pm on Saturday, 9:30 am to 7 pm on Sunday.
  8. Vendor Volunteer: Help our Vendor Coordinator take care of the venders during JAFAX. This may be dealing with issues, along with other tasks assigned by him. You will work directly under him during your shifts.
    --Time for shifts: 8:30 am to 7 pm on Saturday, 8:30 am to 8 pm on Sunday.
  9. Cosplay Contest Volunteer: Help our Cosplay Contest Coordinator during the Cosplay Contest. You will most likely not be able to view the show, as you will be helping the contestants get in line and will be backstage most of the time. You will work directly under the Cosplay Contest Coordinator during your shift.
    --Time for shifts: TBA
  10. After Hours Cleanup: Helping with the clean up after the event ends for the day. Needed for both Saturday and Sunday. General cleaning, helping the vendors pack up and returning tables and chairs to storage.
    --Time for shifts: 6 pm to whenever on Saturday, 7 pm to ASAP pm on Sunday.
  11. Guest Wrangler: They help our Guest Coordinator help the guests get to the event in the morning, with various tasks during the day, and back to their beds at night.
    NOTE: Please have a reliable car and driver's license if you want to do this in the morning or at night.
    --Times for shifts: 8 am to 8 pm both days.
