Welcome, volunteers! Without your assistance performing a variety of vital tasks, JAFAX simply would not be the same.

This year, we are offering two types of volunteering opportunities: in addition to our regular volunteers, JAFAX now offers an Internship Program! This program is designed for those who would like to learn what it's like to run a department at a convention. The program is also a great tool for volunteers who would like to become JAFAX staff, as it allows them to experience their dream department and also acts as a working interview with that department.

INTERNSHIP VOLUNTEER

​

This volunteer position will require the volunteer to be available for working hours through the entire convention. You will work with the department head to create a schedule where you will work in that department only. Don't worry! You won't be on duty 24/7. You will have set times that you are to report to your assigned department so you can get a feel for what is done behind the scenes. Some of these duties will include helping with set-up before the con and tear-down after the con. Each department is different in their focus, such as Gaming, Guests, Exhibitions (Vendors and Artists), Registration, Volunteers, Entertainment (Evens and Cosplay)! This position guarantees reimbursement if your schedule is completed. 

 

If you choose the Internship Program volunteer position, be aware that there are limited spots within each department so you will need to pick up to 3 departments that you wish to work with. Because there are limited spots, if you do not get your dream department this year, you are strongly encouraged to work as a regular volunteer and try again next year!

REGULAR VOLUNTEER

 

This is the volunteering you know and love! These volunteer shifts are in 2-hour blocks and all positions have chairs available so you are not standing in one place for long. Volunteer scheduling is flexible! Please work with our Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that your volunteer shift(s) work with your schedule. The volunteer positions that we have are as follows:

• Badge Checker: Responsible for verifying the validity of badges upon entry to the convention space, ensuring seamless access for all attendees

• Runner: Tasked with promptly fulfilling errands and relaying messages on behalf of JAFAX staff; filling in for any vacant shifts to maintain operational continuity​

 

In addition to the wonderful benefits of helping keep our attendees happy and giving back to our community, all volunteers benefit from these extra perks:

• Badge refunds, where:

  • 10 hours of completed volunteer work awards a full refund of a 3-day badge

  • 4 hours of completed volunteer work awards a refund of a one-day badge

INFORMATION FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS

​

All of our volunteers will be entered for consideration for JAFAX's annual Keith Lehmann Volunteer Award for the Most Valuable Volunteer! This yearly award goes to the volunteer whom JAFAX directors and coordinators feel went above and beyond their duties throughout the convention weekend. The Keith Lehmann Volunteer Award and a runner-up prize will be presented at Closing Ceremonies.
